Like a nun, making their covenant with God, I dare to interpret self imposed pictograms, like sigils of some obscure religion. I paint to transcend my Earthly bonds of materiality. By observing these ritualistic practices I engage with spiritual realms, using images to dig up nostalgia and play off of childlike wants. By working sculpturally, often painting on unnatural sewn, or found grounds, and by exploring unorthodox ways to shape my surfaces, I am able to challenge my audience’s perception. To redirect the viewers attention, I use abstracted imagery to address psychological fears. I enjoy creating visual structures only to break them; and my work often toys with entropy as a mode of paradoxical discourse. I seek connection with my audience by utilising space and technique to question a range of perspectives. The zealousness with which I approach each piece influences its context. One image takes on a myriad of meanings as my obsession with a single form is transposed over and over again, ritualistically, using a range of mediums, in different contexts, over the years.
